How many Akharas are arriving at Kumbh Mela 2025?

There are a total of 13 Akharas that usually travel to this important celebration throughout every Kumbh Mela. But at the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela in 2019, one women’s akhara broke the ceremony’s norms when they set up camp and performed ceremonies under their own flag that were identical to those of the male akharas.

This means that a total of 14 Akharas, including Nirmohi Akhara, Nirvani, Digamber Akhara, Mahanirvani Akhara, Atal Akhara, Bada Udaseen Akhara, and Nirmal Akhada, are expected to join the Kumbh Mela in 2025.

Niranjani Akhara, Juna Akhara, Avahan Akhara, Anand Akhara, Agni Akhara, and Naya Udasin Akhara are the six Akharas that make up the other group. In Prayagraj Kumbh, a female or trans-gender Akhara known as the “Kinnar Akhada” was held, making it an unusual sight to see for pilgrims.
