How does the Shahi Snan happen?

On predetermined occasions, Shahi Snan starts at the crack of dawn or at midnight during the Kumbh Mela. The ascetics and saints of the Akhadas launch a gun-wielding march for Shahi Snan, supported by sizable crowds. 

Locals lay out rangolis and flowers along the route of the procession months in advance. The Akhadas, made up of their saints and students, proceed one at a time to the Shahi Snan’s location. playing music while accompanied by their sawari, which may include horses, camels, or elephants. 

Swamis can be seen travelling on both elephants and tractor-trolley chariots. The followers decorate the path with flowers. There are sounds from a variety of instruments, including the dhol, the tasha, the Nagare, and others. Slogans and phrases like “Har Har Mahadev,” “Gauri Shankar,” “Jai Ganga Maiyya Ki Jai,” etc.

Thousands of naked Naga Sadhus are chanting while wearing garlands, applying holy ash to their bodies, wielding dazzling swords or other weapons, and waving flags. Use phrases like “Har har Mahadev” and “Har har Gange.” You feel like watching a movie because of how captivating it appears.
